A Permenant fix link Thread ???!!! why not...?

More & more I find myself reading threads along the lines of...

" has anyone got...? "

" Can anyone send me...? "

" yeah me too... "

most of these fixes can be found publically on GCW or other similar sites- so 90% of the time there is no need for many of these mails and PMs.

I just thought it might be a good idea to have one thread running with no crap, JUST GOOD LINKS to current game fixes or official patches.

In the form of a simple list of; game names, version #s, and urls, it would be an easy to use, and easy for everyone to post their own personal links to - in addition to the GCW archives

As members of this forum came across useful files they could just post a link to the thread for the benefit of all the other users. It would free up the forum for discussion on GAME COPYING (as in its title), because it seems to me that more & more this forum is becoming a no-cd crack forum and losing its focus.

I know no-cds are useful & indeed I use them all the time, mainly coz I'm a lazy sod that can't be bothered to change cds. It would just be a one-stop quick fix for many of the people who would otherwise post repetative & un-necessary threads.

I realise it would require policing for dud links etc & it may have to be spilt up as it grows - I would suggest by genre.

Anyway, thats just a suggestion to the "powers that be" within the FileForums heirarchy. Anyone else got any thoughts?

As a sidenote, I'm a member of many forums for various things throughout the web, I haven't been here very long but have been constantly surprised with every visit by how genuinely freindly and helpful people are here. It has encouraged me on several occassions to go out of my way to at least try and help other members with their copy problems. I see this forum as a real triumph as it typifies the true spirit of how help forums should, could, and can run and be run. well done you all.
.
Long Live all of Game Copy World, but particulaurly our little corner, where we sit huddled around the CD Burner.

Thread would soon be spammed by a bunch of people making requests.

Yes. I've got several threads running where I made a huge, clearly visible, direct link to the crack in question, and STILL the bozos keep on posting underneath it with "Please send it to me too, here's my email...". You cannot believe how stupid and lazy most people are. In addition to that, there's the army of "the official patch just came out five seconds ago, where's the crack ?"-posters, and of course the "Yes I see 5 threads with the same subject, but I'm "special" so I'm going to make yet another thread about it"-posters. Sometimes I think I'm really going to lose my belief in humanity because of this crap.

Dear moderators, PLEEZ, ignore/warn/ban people who ask patches to be sent to them via E-mail!

If most people _can_ wait for patches to be released the usual way (i.e. uploaded to the GCW site) then why make any difference with those people who _can't_ wait?! In other words, why waste _our_ time with helping them, instead of letting them wait and "waste" _their own_ time...?

I never understood this behavior and it frightens me to see the same behavior to creep over UseNet, too. The same questions, requests, (fake) stories, "I'm special" exceptions again and again...

Joe

Not all of them, there are some cracks that are NOWHERE to be found and these I sometimes send to people. I used to send Emperor : Rise Of The Middle Kindom 1.0 fixed exe, while there was no site that had it. This was for a very long time, luckily GCW is hosting it now. I also make a habit of demanding people to pm me with their email addresses if I send a crack out, so they don't all make a post on the same thread. And I made a lot of good people happy with it, however there are always those who abuse systems like these, and refuse to click on the provided link in the same thread. Those people ARE annoying, lazy and dumb, but I don't think ignore/warn/ban will help a lot, Cirkutz needs all his time for the REAL troublemakers

Okay Rincewind, then how about adding two more forum rules?

- Do NOT request patches/fixes/trainers/whatever for games or upgrades of games that have been released within the last two weeks. Be patient and give time to the people who do these!

- Do NOT request patches/fixes/trainers/whatever to be sent directly to your E-mail address if it can either be found on the regular sites (see the other forum sticky!) or it falls into the category covered by the previous rule.

Yes, the _current_ forum rules already cover this more or less but, perhaps, they are not clear enough... (Not that the real bozos, the so called "write only users" would read anything anyway... )

This forum is a damn mess. People should learn some discipline or be away with them!

Joe

Those are good rules, however how are you going to implement them when most people seem to lack basic reading skills.

In the end, it's up to the mods, since they have to warn/ban people if they break the rules. As it is, I think they're busy enough with just cleaning up the worst offenders.

I've got to agree with Joe. It so pisses me off when I see a plonker request a crack for a patch that only came a few seconds ago. The biggest culprits seem to be those Neverwinter Nighters and Warcrafters. Its funny, I thought only geeks played RPG's and as we all know the geeks were the cleverest kids in school, so why dont they have the talent to crack these games themselves? Check the archives and you would see quite a few threads all asking for the same thing. Idiots. They deserve a ban for that.

Am I the only whose noticed that there has been a crackdown around here on warez issues?? The only forum that I find dodgy is the PS2 forum. When someone claims (and has a list of them in his sig) to have backed up over 130 games do you think he brought them all?? Also all anyone seems to be doing over there is promoting a moderator's business. Dont get me wrong that mod is an asset to fileforums due to the respect he has in the PS2 scene and his wisdom, but is that not a conflict of interest?

Bounty Warrior, I have always respected you very much, but this time.......I am even impressed

I am 101% with you. That is what I would have written........

Nothing more to say (uh, you saved me a lot of work... Would you like a beer for that ?)

Uhm, well, yeah, as I also wrote, new rules would be of no use for people who don't read _any_ of the rules anyway (the "write only users")... It would also be silly to put extra burden on the moderators.

It was just an idea, feel free to ignore it... Still, just _adding_ these (easier to understand?) rules would help senior members to _refer to_ when telling newbies to go to hell...

Good Move :)

Glad to see someone took the initiative and focused everyones attention on this topic nice move non-fiction.

I've read all the Sticky's and new trial rules and agree with them all, but it won't stop dumbasses breaking them and no doubt no one thought it would, but it's a comprehensive list, and maybe the 'non-english' people can be forgiven a little if they
don't understand ALL of them!

Could new members be dumped into a controlled thread where all the stickys and rules are? That way they would have to read and agree to them before asking for access to the main forums?

This is what we've done on a board where I'm one of the mods. It just means we have to individually give new members access rights to the main board, but at least it forces them to read the rules and agree. If anyone breaks the rules it's an instant BAN! Well, they should have read the rules shouldn't they?

VLuka resigned?

Wow, I'm sorry! I didn't know, but I can guess the reason why, all the idiot posts? Was there a farewell thread?

And it does make it kinda hard, if not unthinkable, to Mod a board when you're down to one lone soldier

Good luck brave CirKutz!

You saying I'm blind?

I've read it NOW, but can't say I saw that Announcement when I posted in this thread earlier

I even used the Member Search to find VLukas last post, it was on the 13th Dec in the 'CD Copy Protections & Utilities' Forum. Looks like the Search doesn't include Announcement threads or I would have found it, now who said 'Meet the Search button'?

Nevertheless, it still means you're understaffed. I'd offer to help but a supposed 'blind man' wouldn't be accepted would he?

I saw it, I read it, wishing it were not true but life goes on....

As a very long time reader of fileforums and user of gcw and rather new poster, I for one am very happy for this service that is provided.

Vluka gets all the credit in the world for sticking it out as long as he did and for being helpful like he was (and hope still is on gcw).

CirKutz, thank you for your work here! MUCH appreciated.
