Taking the plunge!...maybe

Posted here about a year ago because I was considering buying a PS2. Turned out to be too expensive then.

But now...!!!

So just a few questions:

1.) Which DVD burner to buy. The pioneers or the new Sony that supports all the formats. And what is the use being able to write in all the formats anyway. BTW, copying DVD movies is also very important to me. If you recommend that I get a pioneer. Is it alright to get one of the older models (A03 or A04 and save some money)?

2.) I bought the PS2 about 2 months ago in AUS. Are there any problems there in terms of getting the best mod chip for that particular model. (I don't know what model it's yet, still need to check)

Cheers

Answer 1:
OH NO....Not this debate again..
Seriously, The Sony and Pioneer both are great drives.
I have the A05 and I love it... It works great for dvd movies as well as PS2 games, and any other thing I can throw at it.
There is a few people on here with the Sony drive as well, and they report it works great also..
So, the debate continues...
I guess it just comes down to personal preference...
Also, it wouldn't be such a bad thing to get one of the older drives if it will save you alot of money, but if the money difference is not that much, I would get the newest one...

Answer 2:
Shouldn't be any problems at all. Look on the back of your PS2, it has a number on it that begins with SCPH-xxxxxx.... We need that number and any other info on that label you could provide.

What you mean mean by this? Are you talking about writing in DVD-R, DVD-RW, and DVD-Ram?

Any DVD burner should work good for ya. I have a Philips DVDRW1208 and it works great.
My buddy Rob has a Sony (don’t remember the model number, but I should I installed it. LOL), and it also works great. Just witch ever one you find for the best price.

To tell you the truth, I HAVE NO IDEA....... I have never had a use for the +R/+RW format that the Sony supports....
So instead, I got the A05..... It works for everything I can throw at it...PS2 games, DVD movies, etc......
