Rally championship

Hi, anyone know wot sort of protection this game has, as I am trying to make a backup copy & no matter wot i use it cant copy it, that all get to about 3% & dont seem to go any further. I left one for 8 hours & it was still on 3% . Its a old game now so im suprised i cant copy it. I thought i read somwhere that I need to copy most of files of the cd (but not all) to my hdd first, then copy that way, but that dont seem right to me. Surly there must be a way to do a proper copy. TIA

Have you read the FAQ at the top of the forum? There you will find a link to Clony XXL will which identify the protection an import the correct settings into Clone CD.

I have used clonyXXL & used its settings to try to copy, but still stays at 3%., clony shows 1 skull & says dummy files, but 1 skull should mean its not very high protection, so im not sure if its right . I was hoping someone has made & copy & can tell me.

Like you already mentioned in your first post, if something like this happens you can copy the files to your harddisk and make a new compilation with nero or similar program, make sure you've got the right volume label too. This will work the same on unprotected cd's as the game has no means of checking if it's the original. It could be that one file refuses to get copied and gives you an error, when that happens tell us about it. You do NOT need clonecd at all, copying to your hard disk and making a new compilation cd works just as good for unprotected games. And since your game is that old, it WILL be unprotected, and probably only has a cd check.

RacewindthwWiz, clonyXXL says the cd has dummy files. Does this mean a cd with dummy files cant be copyed by any software out there ?

No, dummy files is an oldish copy protection. When copying from cd to hard drive, these dummy files usually appear very big, making the disk over 1Gb in most cases. This stops people copying from cd to hard drive to cd - the technique that was used a lot years ago before copy protection.
But Clone CD will be able to copy the disk fine with the dummy files. The cd may be scratched however, leading to the slowdown in the reading. You could try cleaning it using the "toothpaste method" or you can take a chance and put Fast Error Skip to 'On' rather than 'Automatic'. This will skip all the errors it encounters, but as u would expect, this may lead to a corrupt copy.

Oh bloody hell, I forgot about dummy files. Shame on me and my descendants to the third degree gh0sth@cker is absolutely right about this one. Although I seem to remember copying one of those games with nero once, probably checked the ignore illegal TOC option or copied all files except the dummy ones to hard disk. gh0sth@cker, would it be possible to just leave out the dummy files when copying, or would the game check for these ? I can't really remember, I'm getting forgetful in my old age

Sometimes dummy files are only used as a copy protection, sometimes their existence is checked. But 0 byte files with the same name will help you out in most cases.
