Anyone get the error "bf1942.exe is not protected with safedisc 2.60.52" when running bf1942_nocd_loader.exe??

i played the game on a friend's computer a little while back..he said the updates were a real pain to go thru. I remember that he had a program on his desktop that seemed to be external of anything that EA or gamespy made that would list several servers. I think we had to run a program that targeted bf1942 too, but i can't remember the names of any of these...anyone know?? thx!!
