Backup booting

I just bought a new Playstation 2 (NSTC v7 39001) because i burnt out the DVD laser in my old one. So anyway i got it home and was testing it out to see what it read, and i went to try a back up (cd and dvd) with a swap trick i used on the old one and it wouldn't work. I know, get a modchip, thats going to be going in very soon. I wanted to make sure it read the media first. I was using a gameshark v1.9. Original games work fine. Do i need a newer version of Gameshark or something? Or do i now need to patch games?

Yep..I'm not gonna tell you to get a modchip however be awared that at the rate you're going buy the time you get a modchip you probably need to get a another brand new PS2 since you're killing the laser from the swap trick without anytype of modchip..Most notorious one is Knife trick..Early Grave for PS2's..Not a good choice..

you need GS2 v 1.93 or better, Like AO3 said, buy a chip, if not you will be buying PS2 #3. The knife swap will mess up the PS2.

Here what i don't get though, i use the knife trick, but i only swapped cd's (i just got a dvd burner a day or two before the last one fried) but the DVD laser burned out. I tried the cog thing where you re parallel the cd tray, and that worked for about 5 min. and then i ajusted the laser, but it didn't work.
