Apple modchip

Anyone can tell me something about Apple modchip? Is it ok? What are the differences with Messiah?

from what i have read it is the same as the magic2 and messiah except it screws up dvd movies. but you can always put in a switch to turn the chip on and off.

So, it's impossibile to see DVD movies or only those ones on DVD-R? In the first case, I think it's not worth to buy it...

AO3 knows alot about this chip... He should be on later and be able to help you out...
What version PS2 do you have? I only ask because since the Apple chip has not been out very long it has not had the chance to be extensively tested in the field. A better choice would be the Messiah or Magic 2 (If your PS2 will support either of them)

This is a very good piece of advice! Wait a while for chips to get tested before spending upwards of $100 for one that may or may not work as well as described.

I have a PS2 modded with the apple chip and I am very pleased with the performance. I bought my pre-modded PS2 from www.lik-sang.com. I only burn PSX games on verbatim media and CD-type PS2 games on just about anything. I haven't yet burned any DVD type games yet because my DVD-burner is not installed yet. I can play about 97% of my back-ups, have found a couple PSX games that don't get past the Playstation logo start up screen. I have been through 2 PS2's and 2 different mod-chips before I was happy, the USB mod, and the no-solder chip. Trust the experienced ones in that the Messiah and the Magic 2 chips are probably the best, but so far the apple chip is doing well for me. Also I have no problem playing DVD movies on my PS2. If anyone has any more questions on the apple chip just ask, I'll try to answer.

Thanks Charlie, do you have any idea why I've found a few PSX back-ups that seem to get stuck? My chip plays 100% of my PS2 back-ups but only 97% of PSX. Also I can't get PSX back-ups to work on anything but Verbatim. Gauntlet legends and Tomba 2 are some titles that don't work. I have exclusively used Nero for my software because my burner doesn't support 1:1 burning with Clone CD. Could this be my problem?

You know the PS2 alone (mod or no mod) isnt 100% backwards compatible with ps1 games. This has been known from the start. So if your having problems with some games it may very well be the fact that the PS2 cant play it.

Tyler, this just occured to me. Out of the PSX Back-ups that won't completely boot, the originals will boot, which tells me that something is messing up in the burning process. What could be some problems... Need to patch, need to use clone cd rather than Nero for 1:1 copying? I tried to patch one game but all it did was it made the PSX logo screen look different but it still didn't get past that screen. This is not a big deal if I can't figure out how to get these few games to work because I can play 97% of my games with no swap. However, it would be nice to have my mod work 100% of the time as described by Charlie in the mod chip test. Thanks for all the help.

What Tyler says is true regarding to PS2 not being 100% compatible with Ps1 games however the Chips somewhere it's gotta be a defect..For example on my Messiah Tekken 3(US) is chopped, Doesn't Vandal Hearts 2(only .50% of the time), Legend of Dragoon does not boot at all and Tales of Destiny 2 doesn't boot either. All of his Boots fine on my Playstation without a problem..However on my Magic2 I got everything to Boot without a problem of anykind exception of Tales Of Destiny 2 no matter what..This game never booted even when I had Neo2.2.
But the fact that it boots on PS1 without a problem says that it can't be the burn itself nor has anything to do with PS2 compatibility since TOD2 is been out for maybe 2 years at the most. So the conclusion the Chips has defects somewhere still.
I hope Apple Fixed this or Cyclone Will..It's No Big deal either way. Rather a point made.

Yeah I dont play many ps1 games anymore. It may just be one of those bugs that doesnt get fixed in the modchips.
