hp9700 can overburn or not?

hi,

My cdrwiter is HP 9700 series. I want to overburn CD-R. Does this drive support overburning? I checked in Nero software and it says overburn supported. but I could not oveburn any CD yet.
can any body please confirm if this works or not? or if there is any firmware upgrade is needed.
