C&c Renegade Problem

I recently hired C&C renegade from my library and when I installed it it got to about 25% when it quit and then said "Cabinet file error 4". So i did this a number of times, each failing at different percentages. I then tried a different approach, using winRAR to open the .cab file and extract the files from each of them at once, but when doing so, the program told me there were errors in cabinet file 7 and 1. The files I did extract opened the game and but the startup screen didn't appear the same as what is in the manual. I went to single player and clicked campaign and the games went back to the main menu, when I tried tutorial the game went back to windows.

Any ideas of what the problem is. The fact that the cab files have errors sounds like the writing of the cd was poor or something.

Anyone else had this problem? Anyone know how to overcome it?
