Question TOCA Race Driver & Fade Protection

Hello
Anybody out there played a DVD backup of this game, in the manual it say's the game is proteced with Fade Protection.
I have been playing for the last couple of day's, with no sign of fade protection. Is this something Codemasters are printing to confuse people, or does Fade Protection realy exist ?

Sid

It reminds of me a PS1 game that had protection supposely..
"Medievil" The game is protected but I made a 1:1 copy and it works fine..Lot of people told me it was protected but I played through all the way and nothing happened..Maybe it was some of kind a bluff..Who knows..Or there were several thousand out there did have protection..

You dont have to worry about FADE protection if you use CloneCD. If you have a DVD game that has FADE protection then sorry for ya.

Although I think FADE protection is mainly for CDR or DVD-Rips because I have a couple of fade protected games on DVD-R with no problems on them.

FADE protection is real though.

did you guys apply the ntsc patch from ps2chimps? i'm not sure if that's what's causing the slowdowns or if it's just a bad burn.

Never applied any patches to it.
Burnt with Primo DVD on a verb DVD-R, no slowdowns here.

The game WILL be protected with FADE but DVD-R users need not worry. FADE only works when the game is ripped onto CD-R. The protection checks the TOC size of the game when it is booted. If it detects that the TOC size has changed in any way then it will slowly start to disable the game and the physics will be non-existent. It does this until the game crashes and becomes unusual. The console stores this information so it will be pointless reburning from a Bin or CUE file you have on the hard drive. If you want to be able to play the game again you will need to re rip from the original disc but FADE will kick back in. GET A DVD BURNER THEN YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT FADE AGAIN! Plus DVD ripping is showing it's age. There is no point anymore because the prices of DVD burners have been reduced significantly. You also get to keep the whole game. Definately worth the investment...

Excellent news, I guessed that DVD-R was not affected, cos I have played with LMA Manager 2002 on DVD-R, and that showed no signs of fade protection, that's why I asked if fade protection really existed. I wonder how long it is before they start protecting games so they can’t be copied to DVD-R.

How does the console store this information? Memory card?

It stores it in a hidden file on the memory card and in the system configuration on it too.
