Game Pads and EMUs

I bought the original Sidewinder game pad to use with my NES and SNES emulators but haven't had much success. I can not do two things at once such as make a running jump. Does anybody use a game pad with their game emulators? If yes, do you have this problem? Please help.

try another emulator, look around for one that performs well on your system. I fiund that all emulators have advantages and disadvantages over other emuators. Usually because they were created by hobbyists so that they can play games specifically on their computer, most of these people are uni students.
