Post Mod Chips are obsolute

You do NOT need a mod-chip in order to play a copied game all you have to is:

Put a spring on the cd lid sensor. Do this to trick the psx to think the lid is closed. Now power the playstation with no cd. When the playstation menu apears goto the option that lets you play music. Put in a cd game that works normally. Lift the spring and place it back down to make the playstation think the lid was opened and closed. Now press the play button. Now from the point you have 2 options. The first I'm going to tell you has less music quality during gameplay. The first thing you can do is:

When the cd stops spinning take out the normally working cd, and put in your backup/import. Then exit the music menu. Then your game should start. If the cd is specially protected then sometime during startup you will get an

Software Terminated This system may have been modified. Only game know to do this is Crash Bash and the Crash Bandicoot serious has the potential of giving you this message.

The Second method is:

When the cd stops spinning after pressing play with keeping the normally owrking cd in the drive exit the menu. When the black Playstation logo screen appears quickly swap the cd's. You have few seconds to do this and you eventually do it like nothing. This method is better quality of the two.

Note: If you don't have a spring you can take piece of tape and gently press down on the lid sensor with it.

Also the lid sensor is in the right top corner.

This is for those who don't want to ruin thier warranty on their playstation.

What about damages?

Might be a bit risky? The lid closes for a reason--to keep the disc stable while spinning at several thousand RPM's. You might be risking damage at least to the media, if not the drive spindle if you let a CD spin freely at any time?

Kinda pointless when you consider how cheap some of the mod solutions are out there.....not too mention how cheap the PSX is now anyway. It only cost me $15 and 15 minutes to mod my PS2, shouldn't be THAT bad to mod a PSX!

Didn't they have some solutions for the PSX that didn't involve opening the case to mod it?

Anyway, Good Luck!

I'd still prefer a mod-chip, put it in and let it go.

Why? Why? Why are people so freakin cheap? If you want to worry about Warranty get a Pro solderer instead of trying to use sh**ty methods which will eventually damage the machine..
Hey all the scrooge's out there stop saving money and spend when you need to..Geez..All this effort when in the long run it will actually save you cash with the mod inside..Also most solderer's will warranty the machine..

Agreed A03

Do the math folks.....

$40 for GS2 in the US

$40 to $50 bucks for a copy of DMC (unless you find it used for $30)

$8 Brand new designer set of coasters

$200 to replace a trashed PS2

Lesson learned......

PRICELESS

(Sorry for the infringement you credit card guys, but it is SO perfect!)

I mean, come on it is less than $100 to buy a Messiah or Magic 2! A Swap mod solution will only run $10 to $20 bucks, plus $40 for the GS2--even THAT is better then having to buy a new box because you trashed the warranty when you jammed a knive into the drive tray and ruined the guidepin track (or worse)!!

Give it up people! Be Smart!
