Name the Modchip

Hello all, I recently had a PS given to me and about 50 games that work and another 25 or so games that boot up but the screen rolls. If i use them in EPSXE they play fine.

So my next question would be could I rerip the games, then patch then, burn again?

My PS is Model# scph 5501
mod chip has 8 pins 4 of which are being used ( I believe 1 one side 3 the other)
the # on the chip is
12T508/P
04HAP
5428 <---- Not sure about 1st 2 digits

If anyone knows what chip this is and if it is possible for me to fix these 25 rolling screen games it would be much appreciated.

The chip is a PIC12c508/P Micro controller, The same chip is used for all the PS and PS1 mod's but not the only one to be used. The digits you are not sure of is more than likely a date stamp and is probably 9428 or week 28 of 1994 (date of chip manufacture)

What makes the difference is the code or hex that the chip is programmed with. From what you have said then its just wired in a standard 4 wire format, and has probably been programmed with a standard code.

The 25 games you have that give a screen roll are probably from a different region. The 5501 model PSX has a multi region bios enabling you to boot and play games from other regions, but it sounds like you t.v. may not be multi region compatable (PAL & NTSC compatable). If it is then it might be worth trying an RGB scart lead.

Yes it should be posible for you to make another image of these titles and then patch them with an PAL to NTSC converter patch, only if they havnt already been patched. If any of the games have already been patched with a protection fix or trainer then the resulting image will be larger than expected by the PAL to NTSC converter patch and therefore you may not be able to patch the image.

i hope all this goes someway to answering your questions......
