V4 PS2 & AR2 v2.0

Hello,

i read through a whole bunch of Tuts about playing copied PS2 games. I dont have a mod chip but in these Tuts is a description on playing copied games by using an Action Replay 2 V1.4 and a swapping method.

The Problem i have i that i cant get a v1.4 Action Replay. The only one i can get herein my town is a v2.0 of the Action Reply.

So i want to know, if you guys know if i can use the AR2 V2.0 instead of the suggested v1.4 for playing copied games.

If got a V4 PS2 (SCPH30004).

99% people here use a modchip
playing without chip means stuffing knife in your ps2 everytime u want play diff game(most ps2 get damaged)
buy a chip
messiah r best drop me mail if u want 1 they going cheap now (pal version)

Thats not what i wanted to know. I tried the trick with the knife and it works very good. I had no Prob removing the front of the tray and i can also open the try itself to swap discs. The only problem i have is to know if i can use a newer version of the Action Replay 2 instead of the older version AR2 v1.4.

The last time i tried to convince someone not to do the knife swap i was flamed, insulted, and called a liar so we wont even get into it.To answer your question Yes, you can update the AR2

I have a GS2 ver 2.11. Essentially they work the same (written by same company from the same source code). I would highly advise against the knife/credit card trick though. There are some rubber grommets at the front edge of the drive housing that help stabilize the tray. You can easily push these off without knowing it. If you ever come across a small rubberband about the size of the bands used for dental braces, you've found one of them. Losing these can cause some trouble booting games on unbalanced media, and you have to open the case to put them back in. You can also crack the plastic along the edges of the tray's guide pin, causing it to slip out of the track.

The no solder plugs are going for around $10 to $20 (US) just about everywhere (plus shipping). They are nowhere as good as the Messiah, but they are far safer alternative to the knife trick. www.modchipinc.com is selling the v5 no solder for $9.99 right now--they may have a similar deal on a v4 compatible version. I would highly reccomend you try this route and save your machine.

NightStalker has posted an alternate method for booting troublesome DVD-R's that seems to work well for him. You might want to start a new thread to his attention for help with DVD-R's that don't want to boot--you HAVE to have a modchip to use this method.
