Primo dvd prob update
I just read on another forum, (shock horror!) that its not possible to create a primo dvd file greater than 4gb due to the fat 32 system. This could be my problem.
I am running win 98se. which I like and is very stable, how can I get around this one? assuming its a true fact, I think it may well be the case. I have win ME aswell, but I took it off and put 98se back cos it wasnt too stable. If I reinstalled it, (ME) would it still use fat32? or can I lose fat 32 any other way and make a file bigger than 4gb?? any help appreciated Ron

I used fat32 no probs, primo will split the files to 2gb. when you load the *.gi file, just select the main gi (the name you typed in)

theres only 2 windows opperating software that am aware of and that windows 2000 pro and windows xp that will give you the option to have fat/fat32/ or ntfs use the search button and search for converting to ntfs as ntfs allows more the 4gig to be stored on the hard drive at on time .
hope this gets you on your way pioneer 104 firmware 120 prassi primo dvd ps2 v5 messiah! east midlands boyzs............................................. .......................... Last edited by softlad; 17-07-2002 at 03:33. |

You would need the latest PX engine update for PrimoDVD to have it split the 4GB into manageble 2GB or less units.
Have you updated the PX engine?

px engine upgrade.
Ermmm no. Where would I find that per chance? Ron (ps. I can make backups ok with nero/verbatim discs, but its just buggin the hell out me why I cant do these .gi files with primo, and would seriously like to get to the bottom of why not, also if I can make them, then can keep on hd for burning as need be, due to children breakages/scratches etc.) Thanks

Charlie,
updated px engine, still get errors, and this on brand new washed in soapy water not scratched dvd's. I get "px engine error command:28sense 03ASC:11ascQ05" guess its some kinda read error but happens around 90% which is around the 4gb mark. can you diagnose further on this? Thanks Ron

I think you need to go to the properties for the A04 and turn DMA off.

4 GB Game???
Didn't know they ran that high--most of the games I've played have been <3GB. I HAVE run into a 4GB barrier with movie DVD's though. If that is what you are trying to do, I would suggest you try SmartRipper. It has a backup feature that you can use to "rip" the entire DVD to your hard drive as it is laid out on the DVD--folders, IFO's, each .vob,.....then you can rip it back to DVD-R. If the DVD won't fit on a DVD-R, you can rip JUST the main movie file AND DeMacro it at the same time (splitting it at each VOB or designate a size up to 4GB), pull only one Audio stream and remove the Subtitles. This can reduce file size by as much as 50% of the total DVD size. You don't have the menus or special features (you can create a second DVD-R backup of just those items) but it will work.
By pairing this with DVDx or TMPGEnc, I've been able to squeeze about 110 minutes onto a VCD 700MB disc overburned to 722 MB's. Missed getting HarryPotter on 1 CD by only 130 MB's. If I could just get my hands on some 90 Min CDR's........hehe. Good Luck! Raist |

yeah thanks!
got me prob sorted. but regards tryin to get cd onto dvd, you really gotta say hey 4.7gb isnt really gonna fit 700mb max!!! you can do it by deleting this/that/ect however it is poss with poor quality, very poor. better get a cd/dvd/burner and do your own, pioneer A04 eg. then you burn discs, not coasters. Ron

DVD to VCD
You have to run 24FPS Pull down, DeMacro, sample one audio stream only to between 112 and 192 Kbps, Video rate to about 1020Kbps in VCD format at 352 X 288 (PAL) or 352 X 240 (NTSC) and use highest quality motion search, filtering, and audio encoding while bumping up audio level a bit. I just ripped KISS OF THE DRAGON (1 hr. 38 min) to a 700MB CD. Final file was 809 MB, but thanks to Mode2 formatting, the disk is actually only 714MB's. Took DVDx about 7 hrs to rip it on the fly. TMPGEnc can do it in about 6 with a progressive scheme, but I only use that for larger movies (that's how I got Harry Potter down to 960MB's--couldn't get smaller without it looking crappy, so I ripped it with DVDx on 2 CD's instead).
DVDx and TMPenc RULE for DVD to CD conversion--and they are FREE!! They might prove useful to you DVD Ripper's out there as well. Raist |
