Hmmm....

Thats a very good question, and for now I don't think there is, but there are a lot of smart people out there so be patient and I'm sure someone will come up with a way to get you on there. Personally I say just buy the game, then you'll get on NP, its the best RTS since starcraft, maybe even better, its worth the $60.

Personally, I don't like it that much. I just wanted to see if maybe I'd like it more on b.net . Not worth the 50 bucks in my opinion. I guess I better go find my old SC cd Gotta play something till the next good MMORPG comes out.

agreed...

Yeah I guess your right, the game is great though, and it was worth the money I payed for it, but the MMORPGs are definitely better, gotta love em. World of warcraft and Everquest 2 are going to set the standards! Star wars Galaxys doesn't look bad either!

go over to isonews & search for vpn. this is what i got a little while ago - I copied & pasted it for all who are interested. I haven't personally got it to work [yet] but i did connect to the other person's computer.

"After various people PM-ed/emailed me, I'm just going to point out how to use VPN to play WC3 over LAN (and any other game that can use LAN) while actually using a TCP/IP connection. I repost this now here after I posted it first in the 'Warcraft III Troubleshooting thread', more people might check this thread out and it was here VPN was mentioned.

Ok. I'm a total n00b on this, I just tried some stuff, and it worked. I'm sure anyone here on the forum can add/change things to this, I'm willing to edit my post if nessicary.

Ok

------
Someone needs to be the server, someone needs to be the host. I personally think the one with the fastest computer should be the server... I also hope you run Windows XP, else I won't be able to help ya .

SERVER: (Windows XP!! Might also be similiar for older Windows versions, not even sure if you CAN make a server with Win98)

(note: I'm using the dutch version of Windows XP, so some descriptions might be not correct):

1. From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel. Then choose Network Connections and select Create a new connection.

2. The Network Connection Wizard will appear. Click the Next button.

3. Pick set up an advanced connection and click Next.

4. Now pick allow incoming connections (or something similar, the top choice.)

5. Click next.

6. Choose allow Virtual Private Networking. (or something similar, the top choice again)

7. Create a new user account. People will need this to connect to your server.

8. In this next screen, select Internet Protocol, click on Properties. There check BOTH of the boxes, and choose Automaticly Assign TCP/IP adresses through DHCP.

9. Click next. And now finish.

Well, you SHOULD have a VPN server configured now... At least, this all worked at MY computer. Just mess around abit with the settings.

--------
The CLIENT (Windows XP/98/ME/Other versions?)

Now, the person that wants to play Warcraft 3 with you (the client) needs to connect to you first. In this small guide goes the same as before: I'm not sure if this will all work for YOU, it worked for my friend at least. Also, I'm still stuck at the Dutch version of Windows XP, so not all descriptions might be right.

-=Windows 98/ME:=-

1. First download this. It's a patch from Microsoft. Install it (should have no problems there), and don't reboot your computer yet.

2. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Windows Setup > Communication. Install everything from communication (just to make sure) if it already isn't. Now reboot your system.

3. Now that you've just rebooted your server, you open up My Computer, and you choose Dial-Up Networking (that might also be in just the Control Panel... not sure).

1b. (in Windows XP: From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel. Then choose Network Connections.)

4. Choose Make New Connection.

5. Name the connection something. '<name>'s VPN server' or something similar will do fine.

6. Select Microsoft VPN Adapter for the device. Click Next.

7. Next, enter the IP adress of the server of your buddy that just configured his system for VPN. Click next.

8. Click on Finish.

9. Now return to the Dial-Up Networking screen again. Double click your freshly new created VPN connection.

10. In the pop up window that appears:
A. Enter your User name.
B. Enter your Password.
C. Click on Connect.

11. If you get an error message, then you're screwed. Let the server try to make a new user account. That worked once for me. Also don't ask me for firewall troubles! I don't use a firewall currently, so I wouldn't know. Neither does my friend who was the client in this process.

(NOTE: I believe that clients who connect to your server have access to your Shared Printers / Documents! So BEWARE!)

-----------------------

Well, if the client got connected to the server, you can just open up Warcraft 3, click on 'Create Game', pick a map, and the client can join in. Have fun!"
