Newbie question about DVD format

OK I am new to the "backup" process of PS2 games so don't flame me too much. I have a PC with an HP DVD200I which burns DVD+R/RW formats, can a game be copied to either of these formats and if so what chip is the best to have? I have also been reading about the v1 v3 or v5 of the PS2 unit, how can I tell what mine is? If I cannot copy my games with the + format I do have a DVD-R/RW in my Mac, is there software and maybe even some help burning 'em on a Mac?

(Damn I hope charlie is around......)

Welcome - there is no flaming on this forum

Format should be DVD-R (although I read somewhere that some machines could play + format - perhaps somebody could confirm this)

...and if so what chip is the best to have?
for US (NTSC) PS2s, wait for the US Messiah (any day now...) or if you have v5 you can get a magic chip.

I have also been reading about the v1 v3 or v5 of the PS2 unit, how can I tell what mine is?
Not sure about identifying the NTSC models, I think that there was a page on www.startgames.com that done this

If I cannot copy my games with the + format I do have a DVD-R/RW in my Mac, is there software and maybe even some help burning 'em on a Mac?
Yes, you can burn them on your mac. Elkayps2 posted a great thread on this forum about it. Try searching for "toast" and then threads by elkayps2

Hope this is of some help to you

RE:

Thanks for the reply!! So can anyone confirm either way that the + formats will or will not? Also you said that with NTSC models we will need to wait for the Messiah chip and that should be fine, right? I got both of my PS2's the day they came out so if I need to buy a new one to mod it let me know.

Thanks again for your help!!

Brady
