Interresting but...
These patents look really interresting... However, is Mitsumi the same company as Matsushita (panasonic) ? IT was matsushita who developes the disc.. not sure about mitsumi.
If it finally is the GamecubeDisc.. then it would be a very useful information in oder to override the Barcode... Another thing... it is kind of a rumor that gamecube discs are written in reverse.. Any link confirming it? If burned mini-dvd-r dont work.. it could be easy to make a program that "inverts" de image, and burn it inverted, imitating the process of burning it from the outside in. If anyone with DVD burner let it know here, to try these several possibilites

i guess i was mistaken, i am getting mitsumi mixed up with matsushita (the japanese parent company of panasonic). it is they who develop, build and supply the dvd units for the gc. they are also manufactures of the special optical discs the the drive uses!!!
