PSX newbie help please

OK...here's the deal. I have seen stuff about the PSX games over the years but have never paid much attention to it. However, my son just picked up an old Playstation (SCPH9001) and I figured what the heck and decided to see if I could burn some games for it.

First, I ordered a "mod chip" (OK to discuss modchips here?) and had a buddy install it.

Then I grabbed a couple of bin/cue's and burned them with Nero. The result was a message (error) stating "Install Playstation CD" on the screen. So...I did a little reading and found numerous messages re: burning at a slower speed (1x) and gave that a try. Now, when I put THAT cd in the player (same bin/cue format now burned at 1x) the "cd player" function pops up on the screen.

So here's my dilemma: I have no problem reading / researching more info about all of this stuff on my own but...I need to first off, eliminate the possibility that the mod-chip installation / wiring / soldering is messed up somehow.

So here's the question: Due to the fact that I was able to burn a cd, install it in the player and get a "cd player" menu to pop up (not that I know what hell to do at that point), does that imply that the mod-chip is functioning properly ?

Any advice much appreciated...thanks.

ok first things first clonecd and cdrwin are the best programs to use when it comes to playstation burning. also what make and model # of burner do you have? by the sounds of thing (going to the cd player screen) your psx is having trouble reading the disk,(this happened to me when i tried cheap cdr's) try i different type of cdr. tdk and vetbatim data life plus are the best. try flipping your psx up side down when you try to load the game. the only way to test the mod chip is try your games in another chiped psx .

Has your mate chipped many PSXs before?

Where did you grab your bin/cues from? I take it they were original discs.

Have a look at www.psxcopyworld.co.uk for tutorials and downloads on other burning software such as CDRWin and CloneCD.

I agree with Buzzon that Nero is not the way to go...I tried many versions of Nero and had no success at all. I switched to WinCD (I use 3.8G but do not think the version really matters) and all works well! BUT, it could be your wiring too...
