GTA3 (Data2.CAB)

Please oh Please can someone please tell me how to open the Data2.CAB file on the Install CD of GTA 3.
Some of you may know already that the file contains the GTA3.exe file, if i am able to get into the Data2.Cab file, i can exchange the GTA3.exe file for the Cracked version and Re-Write it to CD and when i install it, it will work without having to change the GTA3.exe file the awkward way... Can anyone help me??????

You can get a program that will open them but i forgot its name.

Installshield CAB files should always contain CRC checksums (as far as I know). I have never had a problem with i6comp when I replace files. You have to make sure that you do not only replace the changed CAB file: You have to replace the HDR file, too! If you do this everything works fine.

Darksoul, i6comp wont work on my PC, it closes as it opens, is that right? within the program code it says it doesnt work with dos, if thats correct then i can use it. any other suggestions as to how to open this damn cab file??

This is really bugging me, if anyone can even get a hold of one of the GTA3 Data2.cab files and is able to open it, please tell me how, ive been trying everything

No, you don't understand it. You have to use i6comp to replace files the cab file contains. No other program will work with InstallShield 6.x Cab files. Is it so hard to understand?

Can you tell me how i6Comp.exe work.
Each time i want use it, it says "not the right version of cab" or similar.
Any time ago, there was only ONE .cab and .hdr and i've used i5Comp.exe - it had worked, but since there are Data1.cab + Data2.cab + Data1.hdr it work not !!!

Have you tried this => i6comp? If not, download it and try it with this fixed version. If it does not work then tell me the exact error message and which data.cabs you used (game or application, version, language, etc.).

My cd-rom broke(not GTA3 CD, my whole CD-rom reader) so i needed a no-cd crack...i have downloaded the myth and the deviance crack and they both work. The sounds dont work beacuse i havent tried to fix it... i will only use the no-cd crack untill i get my computer fixed. But... The game starts as normal and it DONT ask me for the cd. When i start a new game or load up my save...it works. BUT when i try to shoot(with ANY weapon)my game crashes and a message comes up "Unhandled exception" So the problem is that i cant shoot and what do i do with GTA3 if i cant shoot???If someone PLEASE can help me...

I've tried it with few games (GTA3 included) and i can open the CABs !!!

I6comp will always work if the file you are looking for is compressed into the .cab files.. even if it has crc check or not. GTA3 has the latest version of installshield, but the file is "hidden" not like harry potter or fifa 2002 where original .exe isn't "inside" the .cab, just an external CRC. I tried I6comp to see what's going on with this game and no problems found when inspecting or replacing file.....and installation works quite fine

You should also know how windows 9x,me,2k,xp works under "DOS" and where you need to place .exe or .dll files in order to properly work with this program. Use the search funtion of this forum.. I published long ago a thread about how to handle iXcomp and how replacing files.....

No problem. Read the source code included with i6comp and you will see what a few additional lines can do.

I have fixed i6comp to work with InstallShield 6.3 Cabs. Try the
not fixed i6comp 1.03b and you will se that it does not work on the most IS 6.3 cab files.

Thanks for the help, im a bit slow so i find it hard to understand all the jargon. Ive only started programming with C++ so im still getting used to looking at the source code but i do understand most of it. thanks for your patience lol

Oh dear, I will loose my nerves if you carry on! I told you to download the fixed i6comp VERSION 1.03b, don't I? Why are you still using the oldest version of i6comp? The best thing is to copy the file i6comp.exe into your windows\command directory.

BTW: What are you trying to do? If you want to replace a file you must first make sure all data files are in the same directory (including the data1.hdr file!). Use this command: "i6comp l data1.cab *.*" to view all files the cab contains. If you want to replace a file you should use this command: "i6comp r data1.cab filetoreplace newfile". Copy the newfile into the cab directory (with the same filename of the file you want to replace) to avoid problems. So if you want to replace e. g. "game.exe" type "i6comp r data1.cab game.exe game.exe". i6comp will search the right data cab number and will replace the old file with the new file.

Is it so hard to use simple dos commands with arguments?
