psx copy speed

If its best to copy psx at 1x or 4x see other posts on this page then why do liteon, sony etc etc make writers at speeds up to 40x.it would not matter what speed your writer does as people keep saying not to go over 4x with anything.(liteon has three different speed writers 24x, 32x and 40x but if you dont go say over 4x why not stick with the 24x.......) surly if you buy a 40x writer it should do as it says and record at 40x other than that then its a lie................

If you go in 24x or above with a lite-on it will use Z-CLV (diffrent speed) so you get a less reliable copy. In a computer it probably won't matter but for a psx it is a disaster.
If you want a perfect working copy for psx then use 1x or 4x. If you have a lite-on you use 8x because it can't burn any slower than that.

use this link to see what speed your writer use CLV and Z-CLV.
CLV = constant speed whole disc
Z-CLV = diffrent speed

It kind of depends on the game, I've had certain games that when burnt at 4x are fine, others were glitchie and when re-done at 1x or 2x worked better. I usually use the rule,do I really want this back-up to be a good one, then I always go 1x if it's a keeper or 2x if it's not quite but I still want a good copy.

I'll admit there are newer a faster burners with burn proof technology that I have no experience with and it might be possible to burn 10x or 20x with no problems - until I upgrade my pentium 2, I'll be sticking with my 6x6x4 external.

so there is no point getting a writer over 4x if nothing can be done over 4x.....

I generally stick to 2x or 4x because anything faster than that makes my computer crash. It really is a piece. I have plenty of games i've had burnt at 24x that work fine though. They work both on my Playstation, and Playstation 2 glitch free, but I suppose if you go too fast it might miss something or write it incorrectly.
