which burner to buy???
Hello, I was going to purchase a new burner tomorrow morning and I am not sure which one to get. There is a lite-on 16x10x40 with burn proof for $100 and comes with nero 5.0 or 5.5, but I am not sure if it can do SD2...one review said that their attempt to make one (no one lives forever) failed. So anybody know if it can do SD2(which I assume stands for safedisk2)?
Another is a Sony 24X10X40 another is a pacific digital mach24 24x10x40 Which one would you get? They are all around the same price. Please help. I make copies of almost every software title I pay more then $30 for, and I was leaning towards the Lite-on because I found a good review but the sd2 issue scares me a bit with that one. And I cannot find any reviews on pacific digital cdrw's. Anybody know if Sony is any good? I'm at a loss to decide which would be best. |

I decided to go with the lite-on 24x10x40 burn proof model because I found it online through pricewatch for $83. I just couldn't turn it down, after I read a couple reviews on it. It got editors choice at one place. Unlike its younger 16x10x40 model which doesn't read data subchannels or whatever, this one does, and supposedly also makes working copies of software that uses safedisk 2 as protection, which the slower model doesn't either. Have to wait a few days for it to arrive but I'll post any problems. I would like to go with a plextor but I'm kind of on a budget here...gotta go cheap. Here are few reviews if anyone is in my situation and want a lot for a little...

Well so far I am extremely happy with my choice. I did some homework on it before I purchased it. I didn't just buy the first thing out there because it was cheap. Plextor may indeed be a better unit but I wont find one here in the states for as cheap as I got this(24x for $83). And so far I haven't ran into anything it cant do so I think I made I wise decision. I would recommend this burner to anyone who might be on a budget but still want the benefits of a nice burner. The smart-burn(basically burn proof) and smart-x are a nice touch too...no more buffer over-run errors....I hate those, and my old 8x always got them unless I burned at a lower speed.

Well, I haven't personally tried to copy Max Payne, but if you go here:
####://www.cdrwcentral.com/reviews.php?op=showcontent&id=21 and then scroll all the way down to the bottom. Read the user comments. The last one is a guy who says he used it to do Max Payne. "Backed up Max Payne from image in 4.02 minutes with 16X Acer media, took 5.57 minutes to read the SD2 disk. luxor " |
