Hi
I have a post November 2000 DC. I read about how to create a self boot game that would work on my DC. I tried it a few times without any luck, just got the normal "audio track" screen on my DC. I then decided I'll start with the basics and create a Utopia boot disk as instructed in the FAQ "Utopia for Anti-piracy DC". I think I did everything right, but still I get the audio track display. Where could I have gone wrong ? Questions: 1) I followed all the instructions and when I ran bin2boot it said there was no ip.bin . I told it to create one and I pointed it to the bootfile.bin. Was that correct ? 2) When I used ISO buster, I looked at the image.cdi but it had no ip.bin file ? 3) I've read that some burners can't burn the first track ... is that so ? My burner doesn't give any errors ? Is there a way I can check ? 4) Anyone have a working utopia boot disk for post November 2000 DC I could try to burn ? Thanks for the help ... any pointers etc. would help Reinier |

If I recall, I think there were some post-November 2000 machines that simply refused to work with any backup, no matter how they were written.
You may have this type of machine. If you've tried everything you can think of (BIN2BOOT) and nobody else has any suggestions that work for you, the only suggestion I can come up with is to sell your Dreamcast and buy one (used or whatever) that you can verify is a Pre-OCT2000 unit. These units should work with anything. |

A small info : if your game is selfboot (and it is), you won't see any ip.bin since it's between 1st and 2nd track on your CD. Windows explorer & iso utils won't find it.
If you want to verify it's here, make an image with DiscJuggler, HEdit it and look for "SEGAKATAN". You'll find your IP.BIN. Wich games did you tried ? |

What I tried
Hi ...
I tried the mame emulator, when that didn't work, I thought I'd go back to basics first and try the Utopia boot disk. I couldn't get that to work either. I burned an audio CD and the DC playes that fine, so I'm sure it can read the CD-R. So one of two things remain ... 1) I burned the image wrong .... (using the Utopia boot CD instructions for Anti-piracy DC's after November 2000) 2) The DC just won't boot a CD-R Thanks |

Do you have a non-selfboot game (with an ip.bin in the root directory) and with only 1 file containing "CD001" ?
If so, put all files in a directory, make a 9660 image using CDRWin et Bin2Boot it. Since the image you Bin2Boot-ed contained no ip.bin, it was allready selfboot, so you might have missed some bin files that needed to be hacked. |
