no solder v5 v6 the same?
i have a v5 board and i just emailed extreme mods.com and they said that either of the version chips will work. i find that hard to believe cuz the v5 chip has all contact points on one side while v6 chip has contacts on top on the small ribbon and on the bottom on the larger ribbon. any other thoughts

Different Web sites have different information. I have recently purchased the chip and mine came in a box that stated it was for the V5 & V6. Mine is a V5 board and it works fine.
I have noticed other web sites are now advertising chips specific for the V5 or V6, but the chip I received matches the V6 picture on the site! What I would say, is go for a site that is advertising a chip that does either and get one of them. |

actually, it seems if you use a V5 mod in a V5 with the flipped ribbon cable connector (it's no V6, V6 doesn't exist), it will damage the PS2.

actually my buddy ordered specifacly a version 5 chip. so he got it yesterday and i put it in for him and low and behold it didnt work. i noticed the different configuration of the contacts so i flipped over the ribbon cable and it didnt work either so then i looked at his mod box and it sez v6. so now i tell him he has the wrong chip, take it out and put the ribbon cable in as it was before any modding done. still does not power on.
is his ps2 screwed now? |

I did see a site that claimed to have a no solder mod that had contacts on both sides of the chip making it compatable with both versions of the V5.

i have seen the mods that can be used on both versions, they call them "flex"
this was not one of those. do you think my buddy can get extreme mods to pay for a new ps2 since they sent the wrong chip and there only 199 now. |

I dont know much about extreme mods but Probably not, You would be lucky if you could get them to admit they sent the wrong chip. Remember all of this is done at your own risk, Thats why it pays to deal with someone trustworthy

as far as I know it pops a fuse cause it shorts out the PS2.
that's usually an easy and cheap fix.. unfortunately I don't know which fuse specifically (fuses are small, black boxes with a number on top), but it should be easy to replace. if you got a multimeter, check any fuses near the connector.
