DVD-R or CD-R Laser differences

I must admit I post another laser question with trepidation after the last one 22 replies and still going! Flaming and all sorts!

Does anyone know if DVD-R's will wear your laser out less than CD-R's. I would ideally like DVD backups but can't see the point of the extra expense if they don't make much of a difference to the working life of your PS2.

I know about losing some movie files, etc with CD-R because of the lower capacity. What i really would like to know is how the different media affect your PS2.
