DVD.. few questions

ok, im a poor college student that has a comp with a cd burner yet no dvd player on it. I was wondering is there any program that will let me rip dvd's without having a dvd drive.

2nd question-do i need a program to change avi's to mpeg1 format or can i just rename then and its done.

3rd i bought a cheap dvd player, once again i am a poor college student living off mom's and dads money, a mintek dvd 2580 and i was wondering if anyone knows if this can read burned cd's or if anyone knows how i can find out

1rst there is no program that will allow you to rip a dvd without having a dvd drive. At least I am not aware of one, I'm 99% sure though that there isn't one.

2nd Yes you must convert the .avi to mpeg with a program, renaming wont work (it never does). You can find such programs at various sites, just do a search. One programm that does this is TMPGEnc.

3rd For your dvd player I can't give you an answer. Maybe someone else will.

to find out if your dvd player will read burned cds you must

*sounds trumpet*

insert a burned cd

press play

avi and mpeg are totally different. thats like renaming an mp3 into a wav without altering it @ all. its a bad deal.

"poor college student", you can try the software "DVDCutter Stream and Mp3CDWav Converter";
And the program "From Internet&DV to VCD" will be able to help you convert the .avi files to mpeg1 files compatible with VCD, that is to say, then you can use Nero Burning or Video Pack burn them to VCDs.
Hope it helpful to you!
