Question Using 80min CDR as 74 Min?

I have an HP CDWriter which recognises 80min CDRs but will only write 78mins and a bit. When using the backup programme it thinks it can write a full 80 mins of data but bombs out at 78mins and a bit. I know I can buy 74 min CDRs but these are now a lot more expensive! (I did buy some 80s by mistake!).

Is there any way of writing something to the 80min CDRs to make the CD Writer think they are 74 mins or have used the latter 6mins of the disk?

Any help would be appreciated.

Tonyb

If you're using something like Nero, then don't make your compilation more than 74mins. (or 78 and a bit)

Or in Nero, you can select what size of disk you are using in one of the menus.

If you are talking about burning an image from Clone CD, then no chance, if the image is 80mins, it'll need the full 80mins to burn successfully.

Unhappy

I am using an HP8100i CD Writer which HP says will work with 80min CDR but only use 78 and a bit mins. I am trying to use the HP Simple backup software which works OK with 74 min disks but bombs out when using the cheaper 80min disks. I would like to solve this problem before 74 min disks become obsolete or even more expensive!

I tried HP but so far they are saying "that is the spec"

Any ideas?
