Building a DREAM System to MAKE PS2 games
Hello guys
Whats up ? well am from Detroit USA and i have 2 PS2 systems which am chipping sooon with the MESSIAH chip ... am also bulding me a NEW PC and i just wanted to ask you guys for any Suggestions or recommendations or anything that i should add to my pc to improve or speeed up backing up games . well here are my SPECS AMD athlon Xp 2.1 ghz 1 gig DDR ram 2 maxtor 60 gig HD's Pioneer DVD-ROM drive Pioneer DVR-A04 DVD-R/RW Drive Plextor 40x12x40 Plextor CDRW VisionTek Geforce4 4600 Sound Blaster Audiology platinum ex Asus A7V333 Socket A/KT333/DDR Mother board ok What do you guys think ? any room for improvment ? please let me know Note: i wanna cut down on one of the cd-rom drives but if i cut the dvd-rom drive i will have to play my DVD's in the burner which has a read speed of only 2x compare to 16x please guys leave me some feed back ' thank you Joey

the only thing that helps copying speed is a faster burner.. however the faster you burn, the worse the disc can be read. unless you use high quality (expensive) cdrs, you shouldn't burn faster than 8x. my ps2 only reads medium priced blanks burnt at 4x.

If you have 4 bays in your case I suggest that you use all four for a cd-rom, dvd-rom, cd-r/w, and dvd-r/rw. CD-ROM drives and DVD-ROMs are cheap enough and going on what the rest of your system is you probably won't have a problem paying for those extras.
The reason I suggest this is because usually CD-R/RW burners only have on average a two year lifetime before they die or the laser gets testy on you. If you can use the CD-R/RW for burning purposes only and have a seperate CD-ROM for reading in only, you may prevent some wear and tear on the burner. The same principle applies with the DVD-R/RW. So I would definately go with an extra DVD-ROM because the extra $50 you spend on a DVD-ROM might save you an extra year of use for the DVD-R/RW.

Use a Combo DVDROM/CDRW?
I've seen a few posts in support of the new LG combo drives they have at local Wal-Mart for about $90. ( www.wal-mart.com ) They carry the 4120 model (8X DVD, 12X8X32 CDRW)drives--the newer 4320 models (16x DVD, 32X10X40) should come in soon.
You can find the 4120 for @$70 and the 4320 for about $120 online ( www.pricewatch.com in the Drives/DVD-ROM section, click to see name brands, then LG, then use the pricerange indicators above the page numbers). Good Luck! Raist

i agree with u u need second dvdrom i got pioneer dvdrom500 very reliable reading all dvdr dvdrw some drives cant read them
both on same ide channel on fly copies 2x dvd is np my own personal chioce yamaha 3200 external its got optimal power calibration on laser and will limit burning speed depending on brand disk(can turn off if u require with right brands disks u can write 24x ps2 still plays them not that i use 24x i use 8x or 12x never get any problems plus if set up like this u can copy a dvd on fly why u read write cd with clone cd
