Question New Metal Gear Solid 2 Pack PS2

Just bought one of these on Saturday - any one know which version it is? I assume V6 (V5 with minor differences) and am trying to decide what mod chip solution to go for.

I know messiah is proly best but although I modded my PS1 myself, the messiah/bootmaster/clone looks pretty hard for a novice like me to install. Any advice on this? Any installers in my area (Northamptonshire)?

Looked at the no-solder mod, but apparently the V6 solution doesn't boot CDRs over 74 mins. Does the V5 one then? Don't mind swapping too much, but alot of my rippped PS2 games on CDR would likely be over 74 min.

Might wanna play imports at some point - not sure what solutions are available for this.

DVD region/macrovision/green screen auto disabled would be nice - but I understand latest AR2 can get round these anyway.

Feel free to correct any mistakes or gaps in my knowledge - I have only just started researching this so am proly not experts like you all are :P

Cheers for any feedback

Tim

If you don`t mind swapping you can serach for a neo 4 or origa chip. Messiah is very hard to install and you need a lot money for it

bullshit.
the neo 4 is alot more work (44 instead of 23 wires), and the origa is exactly has hard to install as the messiah (just a few wires less, but the basic points are the same).

the no solder "chips" are crap, simple as that. they're brainless tray openers, not mod chips.

if you want imports and copies, you'll need either an origa (1x swap) or messiah (no swap).

If you dont mind a short drive and want a Messiah, contact Charlie or dust2dust through their profiles and they will take care of things for you.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

No idea what version of PS2 the MGS2 pack is then?

Messiah would be nice, but I'd settle for a swap solution to play my CDRs at the moment - but if the no-solder mods definately cant play 80 mins CDRs then I wont bother with them. Any one confirm?

back of PS2, open expansion bay, if 2 screws along inside then v4, if 3 screws along inside then v5.

Lightbulb v5

hi miscme
the v5 is the easy one to do out of the other 3 versions so if i where you i would go for the messiah you should be able to mod it yourself if you have modded before its just a matter of getting the right tools a good soldering iron , flux pen the right wire and also somethng i read in the forums i think it was posted by charlie that when soldering the legs of the bios chip use a razor blade to stop solder splashes as long as you follow the ins carefully you should be ok
cheers
