Interact Memory Manager for booting?

All I gotta say is damn, we sure had it good in the Dreamcast scene. I used to think that having a boot disk was pain in the butt, then we got self booting games and I guess I got spoiled. PC iso's are also easy as heck, so when I arrived in the PS2 scene I was more then a little discouraged. Paying $50 bucks for a mod chip plus having to wire it yourself or adding another $20 or so have it installed. Not to mention that it appears that mod chips are not even all that effective, you still have to use a gameshark to boot. Hell, if I wanted to spend cash I buy the originals and save myself the trouble. This post is not without purpose however, I prepped my PS2 to do either Cog or kife swap trick and was able to eject the tray. However, I was wondering if you have to use the Gameshark (or similiar) to perform this trick. Instead, I was trying to use (without success) the Interact memory manager which came with my 16mb memory card. It has a similiar function as the Gameshark, it loads up on its own, asks you to eject and insert the game, then press X to boot. Also, the swap tricks are a pain in the ass to perform every time you want to load a game, so I was wondering what is the best mod chip for a version 1 PS2? I'm looking for something with the least amount of hastle to boot a game, and also something that isnt a bitch to install, I am not very proficient in soldering. I'm also not in the market for a $200 mod chip, I dont intend to spend more then $50 or so. Any help for a "stupid n00b" would be apreciated...

there are several moschips. Origa messiah ans neo. With a neo chip you have to swap your games. Example. turn on your ps2 with game shark. selct play game swap to a backup and press x. The same as a nifetrick only you use a chip. The origa and messiah can boot direct. You don`t need to swap. just turn it on put your backup in it and play. With a neo chip you have tio have al least 1 original dvd game. One with a big TOC. If you want to play a dvd backup with a neo you have to swap with a original dvd game with a larger TOC than thje backup dvd. TOC tels how big the disc is. Howmuch data the disc contains. GTA3 is for example a big dvd game. 4,4 gb. But the meesiah is very expensive and i think about 20 or 30 wires. The neo has i believe less wires and is easier and cheaper. The origa cums between the messiah and neo with it`sw price but also needs a lot of wires to solder.

the knife trick is not a good idea at all. it'll sooner or later damage your ps2, since you move parts by force that were not meant to be moved that way.
swapping with an AR or similar disc only works together with a modchip.

Go For A Messiah chip and get somebody who is experienced at fitting the messiah to install it for you.

May cost you a bit extra but will save you messing up the PS2 and will save you having to mess about with cd swaps.

Yeah, I already have abandoned the cog/knife method, it just dosent seem like a good idea to jam sharp objects in my PS2. I had some general idea that the Messiah was better then a normal mod chip, I read something about direct boot and put 2 and 2 together that it was what I was looking for. I can cough up the cash for a Messiah, but I'm sure I wont be able to install it so I gotta find someone. Unfortunately, I'm moving out of my place and I will be out of the country for a while, which means I wont have a adress for a while. The house is selling in like a week or 2, but I am leaving in a few days for a trip to Europe. So as much as I want a Messiah, I really dont know how its gonna work it out. I'd have to have it shipped (and arrive) at my residence in Florida in less then a week, and find someone to install it after I get back and before I roll out of the country, which is about a 1 week time frame. I'm still interested though, if Charlie or Dust 2 Dust could send me some info on how much I can get a Messiah for and shipping details, drop me a line at rovercam**********com

Oh, I wanted to add that my PS2 serial starts with U1 and and has 10 (6 on the very bottom, 4 more on the next "higher" level) screws on the bottom, Im pretty sure its a version 1.
