Can I just DVD-R and not go through all the messy crap?

I am new to this and have been seeing a lot of stuff about "ripping" PS2 DVDs to CDs etc and it looks like more trouble than its worth for someone like me.

If I buy a DVD burner, and burning software, can I burn a direct copy of the PS2 DVD game to a DVD-R and pop it into my PS2? What is the easiest and simplest way if I had all the best hardware/software? I mean, assuming I bought a DVD burner, etc.

Thanks,

drewson99

Yes with the right software you can backup your ps2 games
But they will not run on your ps2???
Unless you have it chipped. (you will also need the Ar2)

what do you mean an Ar2? I just want to know if I need to muck around with the filed on the DVD-Rom or if I can just copy disc to disc. If it is as simple as that, then I will buy a chip and go nuts, but if I need to muck around modifying/removing files then it isn't worth the time and effort to me.

If I get my PS2 chipped with the very best chip, buy a DVD burner with the very best DVD burning software and buy the best DVD blanks possible, will it ever be as easy as copying disc-to-disc and then popping my copy (back-up) into my PS2, or is it never that simple?

psx_paul is on a distinguished road
1. Buy yourself a Pioneer A03 DVD Writer

2. Get yourself Prassi PrimoDVD or Nero software.

3. How old is your PS2? Where did you buy your PS2 from (UK/US etc). If it is fairly new then there is a good chance it is a v4 or even v5 (search the PS2 formum for how to determine which model PS2 you have). If you bought it from UK then its PAL, if US then its NTSC. If it is v4 (PAL/NTSC) or v5 (PAL) then get yourself a Messiah/Clone chip from Charlie_ps2 and dust2dust - look at ps2 forum they are always posting helpful replies - otherwise you will need to get a different mod-chip and Action Replay 2 (AR2) or GameShark (GS) (ask on PS2 forum - helpful people).

4. Install the Messiah/Clone into your PS2 (if you dont know how to then Charlie_ps2's mate will sort you out for a reasonable price).

5. You can then simply pop your original into DVD drive, pop your DVD-R (get Verbatim/Princo) into the Pioneer A03 and produce backups of your games which can be played in your modded PS2.

Hope this helps.
