Questions about playing backups w/no mods
K, I don't really wanna get a modchip if I don't have to. So, here are a few ?'s:
1. What is the best no-mod method? The ones I've read of are cog/knife and LH. 2. I've read some posts of no-mod backups. What is the difference between a no-mod backup and a normal backup? 3. Does any version of gameshark work with all the no-mod swap techniques? 4. I don't think you take anything apart that can't be put back together the way it was, do you? So the warranty isn't voided if you use a no-mod technique, is it? 5. Recommendation, advice, etc.... Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the help you guys give! |

I don't think anyone will tell you anything different by now actick.
Why are you so against a mod chip? Is it because of the voided warranty? You see the problem with other no mod methods such as the knife one, there far more likely to knacker up your ps2 than a mod is, and remember the warranty doesn't last forever anyway. In the long run a mod chip will you serve you much better. How many people have you heard say that they wish they hadn't had one installed? Especially these m clones that are now available. ARGO. |

I agree with argo, I dont know about England but here in the US most stores only give a 30 day warranty, Better off to install a internal mod chip

I know, I should get a modchip
I guess the reason I don't want to get one real badly is because I don't have any backups now and don't know if I'll be able to get them to work. I also don't have a DVD burner, so I'd have to play rips all the time. I know I don't want to solder anything, the only chip I've considered thus far is the rmod. Plus, I don't really want to spend more on hardware after buying the ps2 itself. Does anybody know much about mail-order pre-soldered PS2s? I'd consider doing that if it wasn't too much $$$. Isn't that why everyone plays backups anyways, to save money? Thanks for the advice...maybe I'll get the GS, try making a backup, then try it with one of the no-mod methods before spending more on a chip? Thanks for the advice guys. |

The thing to do is not worry too much about it.
Remember though without a dvd burner you will only be able to back up cdr based games. With the vast majority of the top stuff being dvd based this somewhat limits your possibilities. How many games are you likely to play? If it's only two or three over a medium to long period you are probably better just getting the originals anyway. Just make sure that they are the one's you really want. Is there a local rental shop were you can hire a game for a few days and try before you by so to speak? Sometimes having a chip fitted can work out more expensive because you tend to buy nearly every game that comes out and many of them don't get used anyway. Make your mind up which way you want to go and just do it otherwise you'll drive yourselve nuts just being unsure and thinking about it all the time. ARGO. |

That's good buisness if you are going to thailand in the first place.
If your not? Well add on the cost of the trip etc and it might just prove to be expensive. Like you say if your there though that's good trading in anybody's language. Fancy a trip to Thailand anyone?? ARGO. |

I'm pretty set on just not modding anything now. I think I'll only play a few games, so the price of the Gameshark and a good modchip would be the same as a couple games. I also have a lot of good friends with PS2s, and they are a little more loose with their money, so borrowing games shouldn't be a problem. I could always get one down the road sometime I suppose. Maybe before long they'll figure out how to make exact copies of games that don't require a swap/mod (we can all dream anyways
). But thanks for the advice guys, you helped me see the light As long as I'm at it, are there any places online (in the US) that sell used games that are reliable and sure to work? As you can probably all tell by now, I'm a tight-wad....thanks again.
