cant we copy a dvd to cdr or hard drive if yes how

You can put DVD films on cd-r discs, but you need to "rip" them to your hard-drive first, then convert the DVD format (MPEG-2) to VideoCD or VCD format (MPEG-1). This is because a normal cd-r simply cannot store enough information for a DVD film, so the quality has to be lowered.

You also need to use some software if you intend to convert the US/Jap DVD's to PAL - which can be VERY time consuming, even with a decent PC.

Just log onto yahoo and type "DVD rippping". You'll end up with loads of info, and you'll be able to download wom programs to help you along your path.
