what is the best mod-chip for the ps2?
could someone give me some information on mods... i bought a neo-key mod.. but it doesn't play dvd-r backups....i went to origachip's website to see the chip...but they didn't have a diagram of the installation for ps2 v1....can someone please give me there input on the best mod available for ps2 version1..thanks- s2j

Don't claim to be an expert, but I do have some experience with this due to owning like 4 PS2's. For an NTSC U/C the following appears to apply, with regard to DVD-Rs:
Origa: V1-4 (best all-around chip) Neo4: V4 only (and it appears that select datecodes only work) Neo4.1: V3-4 (may work with V2, but nobody's tested yet) Messiah: V4 only (no swap all the way. The best) R-Mod: V5 and now V6 only (solderless) I know it's a pain, but there it is. Tril Last edited by trilidar; 14-03-2002 at 05:49. |

take your v1 to second hand shop they give (mine does £110 if boxed as new (they sell £150)
by now laser v1 is no good im 90% sure it wont read dvdr as its worn badly new laser cost £49 +fitting £110+49 +fitting u might as well buy nice new v5 with new laser(if u r pal if ntsc u need v4 ) then u can fit the great messiah if u want messiah or whole package new v5 fitted send me email for info
