Im trying to make a back up of Oni

Im trying to make a back up of oni has anybody got an idea what the best software would be to use

This game is safedisc v1 copy-protected so you can copy it only with cloneCD. A new cloneCD compatible burner is not necessary..just with SAO-RAW wiriting mode you can do a perfect 1:1 backup.

Cheers for the info, after trying cloneCD i find out out my writer doesnt support raw SAO (its over 2 years old) but it does SAO so ive tried to make the back up and im just getting the same message as numerous other programs they are all saying failed to read sector. (its my DVD drive thats reading is it better just to read with the writer, Cause i dunno) but it seems to be reading cause after 6 mins its read 2% but in the log theres numerous failed to read sector errors. Any more info would be much appreciated

IGnore the log and then just burn first and see what happens. Use a cdrw so that you don't waste...Also if it takes long then just leave it reading overnight...

In this case reading with your dvd-rom will be better for it and you will took less time in reading...in this case with safedisc v1 it's normal to take a bit to be read.In my case with a toshiba-dvd-rom it takes about 6 min to do a safedisc v1 image but this is excepcional....my last SAO writer tooks up to 30 minutes to finish reading..and errors are so common so don't worry...in it is based that protection.

I just finished the burn it took 50 mins but everything seems cool. I think i just need a fixed.exe and hopefully that'll do it

I live in the uk and when trying to get a fixed.exe i find there is completely different way to copying it as ive already burned it to disk does anyone know if i can get a uk fixed.exe

If you copied it with Clone CD, as your burner seems to be able to copy Safedisk 1, then you should have no need for a fixed exe. A fixed exe will just take away the protection from the game, but as you have cloned it, you don't need it.

In what is said above isnt the case, i dunno why when i tried the copied version it wouldnt work, kept asking to incert cd-rom
I applied the US patch and now it works fine no need for the cd either. It is strange cause i usually copy using disc juggler but it wouldnt copy Oni. It did however copy RTCW (castle wolfenstein) no problem and it was the case mentioned above direct clone no need for aany patch or fix.
Once again cheers for all the help guys.
Think i`ll stay around this forum
plenty of knowledge floating around. ;-)

Castle Wolfenstein copied ok for u cos it doesn't have any protection at all. With regards to Oni - whatever seems to work for u - as long as you get to play the game

Hey Ghost, after reading one of the topics i have learned that the copy i made wasnt a perfect copy, (its what you guys call a bad copy) so it required the .exe. Keeps me happy though.

Because they're smart and know that:

a) commercial protections cost money
b) they're totally useless against pirating (there's no uncrackable protection and crack for every new protection is only a matter of time), they're confusing only legal users

I would like to say something......i don't think they do not protected this game for money costs.I have been ummm following this tipe of behaviour and it's quite interesting.For example......quake 3 arena was badly subchannel-data protected...half life wasn't heavily protected or serious sam to put a few examples only used a "home-protections" and anybody could copy this game.....and the more impressive comes now....it seems that with this game's companyes didn't lost money.....many people copied it...enjoyed and then purchased a legal copy.The games that are accepted by the public are purchased and it seems some clever people catched it.

I'm new to this board as a poster but have been reading for over a year. Here's my .02 on this subject...

As technology advances and games become more interactive the shift has been away from single-player to multi-player modes. Most games include a small single-player mode for "training", then the gamer moves to the online community. This move to a multi-player environment is set foremost in the game designers desire to appeal to a larger audience. No longer do they have to rely on and code for an A.I. in the single player mode. So an easy way to ensure good sales of a game is to have a kick-ass multi-player environment to play in. You use a key that is checked on the server side of the game. If it's in use you get "Key In Use" or "Invalid Key". Now the publisher doesn't have to worry about people copying the game...in fact I would think they secretly want gamers to do just that. Get yourself a little taste of what the game is like in single-player mode (from a copy) an then, since you need a valid key to play online you go buy the game.

Half-life is a good example of this. They included a really good single player aspect as well, but the multi-player and good mods keep the game going and selling well. I know people who go out and but Half-life so they can get a "Key" so they can play DOD or Counter-Strike.

Think about the games that have a robust copy-protection scheme...does the aforementioned game have a decent multi-player aspect? The ones with none or minimal...how's their multi-player?
