Plextor 12/10/32 & Safe Disk 2??

I have been reading the posts on this board and am about to buy the Plextor 12/10/32 IDE CDRW.
Two things that worry me though is can it copy games that have Safe Disk 2 protection? ...and if so, can the copy be read on other regular CD ROM drives?

I don't want to go and buy it and then find that it either can't copy or that it can copy Safe Disk 2 games but they can't be read in any other drive other than the plextor.

Does anyone know the score with this writer and Safe Disk 2 copy protection?

Thanx in advance!

Nick.

I have a plextor121032a and it is a fine piece of kit, one of the best if not the best writers available.
A combination of the the plextor 121032A and ClondCd will backup almost any disc.
Safedisc 2 is a complicated issue though, to cut a long story short, if someone tells you they have copied a safedisc 2 disc they are mostly full of shit, some are copiable but most are not, there is no set method for copying safedisc 2. It uses an unusual encryption method that most drives are unable to copy.

Apart from this, buy the plextor, it backs up discs that other drives just laugh at, but dont forget its also got a lot to do with the software you use.

Firstly, thans for taking the time to reply duckers.
I appreciate what you are saying about SD2 protection.
I suppose that if say, i wanted to back up my original games that were protected by SD2, am i right in thinking that i could still copy them but would need to use a crack to be able to run them on other machines..or would i just not be able to copy them in the first place?

My friend that has a creative writer can copy games but he needs a crack to be able to run them.

Regards

Nick.

As you know sd2 is a very unique copy protection.

Clonecd and a plextor drive can copy sd2.

a quote from Olli from clonecd clinic:
"Some writers (Plextor) can at least read the copy they've made, so the copy will run in the writer, but not in an ordinary CD-ROM."

I hope this helps

Perhaps i will wait a while then until a better solution to getting round the SD2 protection is found.
Thanks for the replys, but i'm still wondering...can SD2 games be copied with the 12/10/32a and played with a crack in any (well most) CDROM's?

One solution is:
1. create an image using CloneCD from the plextor 121032a drive(do read to image file).

2. Use a program such as IsoBuster to 'open up' the image file and edit its contents.

3. Get the no-cd crack for the software and put it into the image file, replacing any files if asked.

4. Burn the CD using CloneCD

5. I havent actually tested this method but in theory it should work but the installed software will not be upgradeable

Its only a sort-of-solution but if your desperate to have a copy to install from cd it should(?) work......Let me know if any one tries it.

Alternatively install the game and copy all installed files to cd , then just copy the whole install to cd before installing the no-cd crack, I have done this with Hitman and it is fine and working.

Forget the above solution, I have now tried it and it doesnt even come close to working, sorry about that I just thought it may work.

Only way will be to install-->burn-->crack.

Dont listen to what others are saying about safedisk 2, in most cases you cant do a disc to disc
