Madden '02 CRASHING

Installed madden from DISC
i want to play it from my pc @ work w/o the disc so i tried the 2.2 patch and then update the game and try the 2.21 patch from siedler since gamefixes seems to be down.
When i clk madden i get a big ass desktop and then a black screen and then i get right back to the desktop..
I am not getting the splash screen that i used to get from the just the cd being in...
pls help..
I have all new drivers for the winME system
hercules 4500 card 64mb
512ram

*are there better cracks/patches for this*
