CAB file annoyance

anyone out there have tips about extracting cab files missing the microsoft signature bytes?

specifically - i'm trying to extract the files in the max payne official patch.

i can't just use the automatic patching because the version i have isn't recognized by the installer.

i solved this problem with serious sam by manually extracting and overwriting the files as needed.

any suggestions?
