clony xl new user

i am a new user to cloney xl and i want to no how to get the best use out of it. i had a look and is the most important bit to follow the setting it says to tick eg sub channel etc. please let me now or is there more info i need to no bout the software to get the best result. the game i am copying is fifa 2001 and my cd rw and dvd rom r ok with this software as i have already checked.

Actually Clony was better when SD2 hadn't yet come out because it assisted people in trying to figure out how to copy games. But now that SD2 and SD2 version 2 have come out you are almost forced to have a high quality burner such as Acer, Plextor or Phillips (yea I know there are a "few" others) and use CloneCD 3.X and up because the only settings you need now are Fast Error Skip.

Clony XL will certainly aid you when you start out. BUT, like all detection progs, it relies upon a rigid set of rules to detect what protection is on a cd. (e.g. by looking for certain files/folders etc).
Thus it is limited if protections alter.
It is a good prog to use but it is always wise to learn as much as you can about differing protections so that not only can you recognise them, but also be able to alter burning programs settings to get the best result.
In answer to your question, Yes, it is important to follow the options it says to tick. This is because different prots require different settings.
e.g. securom 1 and 2 needs subchannel data ticked as this is where the signature is. But, safedisc1 and 2 don't use this part of the cd so there is no need to tick it.
As for FIFA 2001, be wary as it is safedisc2. This means that only burners capable of "correct EFM encoding of byte patterns" (check out cloneCD website) can produce a copy which is truly 1:1. Also, if you use CDRW, then run and install from a cdrom or non-writing DVDROM, as the latest versions of SD2 check the ATIP portion of a cd to see if its pressed or a CDR.

earlier versions of CloneCD can copy SD2 just as easily with the correct hardware. there is no need for ver 3.x onwards. Also you say the Clony was better before SD2. SD2 was released back in september 2000. Some 3 months before the beta version of Clony??
