Has anyone tried making backups/copy of GameCube discs?

As the subject says, is there any group/movement trying to copy/hack/modify/backup/decrypt GameCube disc format... GameCube games? Create a GameCube emulator?

I would love to see such a thing, since there are many groups doing the same with the xbox console (apart from being a few months from completely hacking the thing) I have not found any info on anyone doing the same for the GameCube.

I hope they find out something as well. I can't even read the discs.
