BW Backup

I have made several tries to make a valid backup of Black&White.
I use a Plextor W1210A (firmware 1.08), but the backups I create with CloneCD
have all the same phenomenon: they run from (almost) every CD-RW and CD-W,
but from no CDROM!
I have heard that the 1210A will not make valid copies with firmware higher than 1.04, but I think that is a fake information. I downloaded firmware 1.04 and tried to use it, but I was only able to use 1.05 for downgrade, because the firmwares (.exe and .rom) from www.plextor.com won't work with my drive, only the .bin files from www.plextor.be.

Any suggestions?

Clone Cd, to my knowlage can only make a perfect working backup of safe disc 2 games with philips CDR. I made a perfect copy by

1. read with clone cd.
2. use playback to "fix" the image file
3. burn with clone cd.
4. play with playback enabled

it works fine but only if playback is running.

Hi Conor,

I do not think that Safedisk 2 can only be copied with Philips CDR. I backuped Mechwarrior 4 (Safedisk 1(ver. 4) on Disk 1 and Safedisk 2 on Disk 2) without any problems. I think there is something special about the Safedisk version on BW.
Otherwise, when it would be only possible to copy SD 2 with Philips CDR, why can I use my copies in most CD-burners but no players?

By the way, my copies work perfectly with the german crack (fixed runblack.exe).

I conclude that there is a new version of SD 2 on BW. And that may be only copyable with Philips-HW.

Sd2 is copyable buy burners BASED on phillips hardware, they do not have to be phillips drives. B&W does NOT use any new form of sd2 protection either.
