Mechwarrior 4 help

When I use my mechwarrior disc, it installs fine and plays the opening movie fine. I can do the mech lab, and all is fine and good. However, if I try to do anything outside the menu, like actually play the game, the game dies and gives me a STOP: This is not a database! I've tried the patches from the site as well as unsafediscing the exe and I get the same error. Any help?

How did you make the backup of the cd? Did you do a 1:1 copy (clone cd) or did you copy all the files onto your harddriver and then burned them on a cd-r?

I don't like using clone cd, 'cause my cd-rom drive often can't read cd-r's made by clone cd.

I prefer copying the contents of the cd onto the hdd, replacing the original prog file with a cracked one and burning all the crap on a cd afterwards.

That way I've always had success in backing up any cd.
