i had my ps2 chipped(neo 2.2, shcp30003, pal, dvd regionx) and it stopped playing dvds (it still runs cd roms)i have tried cleaning the laser and it didnt help

if the laser was fried would it still run cds?
if it runs cd but not dvds could it still be fried?
could it be something more serious than the laser being fried?

Arakon may nor more about the detailed circuitry as he explained why the laser can get fried. I'm a learner too! But the CD and DVD operate the laser at different frequencies/wavelengths (I recall respectively 980 and 780 nano metres) and that means different power levels. So the laser might not be fired it just needs DVD calibration.

You're in the hands of professional judgement here. You can try tweaking the DVD pot making sure you know exactly where it was in the first place. There is useful info on ####://www.infofree.org/ but if it doesn't work, then you should investigate the voltage coming from pin 2 of the NEO 2.2. If it's 5v, then according to Arakon you may have a damaged laser.

Then you would consider Arakon's asdvice of putting a capacitor and resistor on pin 2 (search on Arakon); then you would have someone install a new laser unti.

My advice is offered at your risk, of course!
