ps2 game booting...
hey, i'm havin trouble booting my ps2 backups with my modchip. Unfortunately i don't know what version my modchip is except that it's a fairly early model. I got it from modchip.com (which i now hear is NOT the place to get em) Spring 2001. I ordered it with a Gameshark so i could boot my ps2 backups but it seems that the instructions wont work. They say that i should first boot up my ps2, insert the cd, select to play the game with/without codes, then when asked to, insert the CD and press X immediately. I've tried this several times with multiple games but none work =(. If anyone could help me i'd be eternally grateful =P. And if Charlie responds, then i am eternally grateful...again. Thx in advance tho.

Check out my site at ####://www.geocities.com/spider_2021 it will be under the Information topic. I have booted each game. Casper, Midnight Street Club Racer, Oni, 18 Wheeler Pro Trucker, and Madden 2002. Without any patches on the games at all not even EA Game Madden 2002. Also I DON"T use a mod chip, I use my Gameshark 2 and that is it. Check it out for more information.

Well I'm not sure if this will help you but when I used to do the way you were saying it never worked for me so I tried a different way on the screen where it says Play game or whatever it says I switch the GameShark cd with my backup select without code and then press x do this quickly.

1030's method should work. But DVD Region X would work because this generation of modchip was agnostic to the name of the boot disk executable file.
My advice would be to move up the food chain and put in a Neo2.2 - it should be the same 8 wires so only the chip soldering needs to be done against a NEO2.2 installation diagram. |

i still can't get it to boot with ur way 1030 =(. Should I have waited for the disc to finish inserting and then select to play it w/o codes? I tried doing both waiting for it and doing it before it was done inserting. If there are any other suggestions plz post em. btw, I heard about a ps2 boot disc which still requires a modchip, but acts kinda like the GS2. If anyone knos more about this post that too =P. Thx again.

still having trouble :-(
look, i hope i'm not getting annoying or somethin, but i still can't get my ps2 to boot the backups. I've tried 1030's way a ton of times but hav had no luck so far. I'm gettin that ps2 boot disc right now but i'm skeptic about it all. Oh yeah, and does it matter that my ps2 is version 4 and that at the time modchip.com didn't have the soldering spots until a month or so later?

Dont know if this will help or not but earlier modchips required the swap to be done in 4 sec or less, if not you will just get a black screen.

Cl0ckw0rk:
Doe your tray auto-eject (following on from Nightstalker's point). If it does then you'd need the Fargo patcher and Unreal Tournament as your boot disk. Ohterwise, and before you order DVDRX, what GS2 version are you using? It may be that you need GS2/1.3 and no other vwersion will work with the chip. Have you contacted Modchip.com? |
