Many thanks to sm83
I followed the instruction you posted, and i think i've made my first back-up. I played the game for a short while and everything seems to be ok, the game was crash team racing. Many thanks for your help, and also to the other people who offered me advice. Oldtimer.
Now whats all this about patches and trainers, iso and ftp ??? All double dutch to me!!!!

I have just done croc legend of the gabos. I ran clonyxl before writing to my hd, on clony it said there was libertycrypt protection. So i still used the info you gave me, the game seems to be playing ok. Is it really that easy? Thanks again, Oldtimer.

when no patching is involved yes it is. because clonecd is the only program that makes a 1:1 copy of the original game. Paying special attention to the subchannel data area where the libertycrypt protection lies. when u come upon a game that is protected u will need a program called cdrwin to apply the patch to the game that u are trying to backup.

SM83: this is the settings you posted to read games
"Set Read Speed to 1x Select Read SubChannel Data from Data Tracks Select Read SubChannel Data from Audio Tracks Select Fast Error Skip Set Read Retry to at least 5 Set Error correction to None UnSelect Don't report bad sectors UnSelect Intelligent Bad Sector Scanner" YOU NEVER SELECT FAST ERROR SKIP as psx games never have errors on if they did have errors its cause the game must be damage in someway so will never have a true copy you should select ABORT ON READ ERROR |

It's ok mate, i will just re-do the discs Using ABORT ON READ. When you use the clonyxl first, do you just do a copy using the settings clonyxl gives you? Or do you have to sort it out yourself if the game is protected? Thanks again all for your input, Oldtimer.

as long as you got a 100% compatible writer with cd clone you DO NOT need to patch games UNLESS it is mod chip protected (you know if its mod chip protected the original game will not play)

So what your saying is, "that if i was to put an original game in, run clonyxl and it showed that it was protected by Securom, laserlok etc etc" that i would'nt have to do anything ?? Just back-up using your original instructions, or the settings that clonyxl give me ? Once again thanks in advance, Oldtimer.

use the settings which i posted on all psx games but NOT on ones which are mod chip protected (the original game will not play in your psx if its mod chip protected) i never use cloney so i can't tell you how it work
