The ps1 boot cd was intended for imports due to the ps1 having a uni region bios.
I believe the PSX-X-Change boot disc is the only one that can boot a psx without the use of a mod chip but because it is a pressed CD there is no point in trying to copy it as you would still require a mod chip to run it!

Hi,
You dont need a boot cd aswell, you either need an internal modchip or the PS Exchange 2 boot cd to play your backups. Check out www.playstationmods.com or www.kanection.co.uk Cheers Dal |

The best way forward for you would be to use an internal mod chip with either....
MMV 3 hex (Multi Mode Version 3) - No boot disc needed but wont play imports. or... All in one hex - No boot disc required and it will play imports. Hope this helps.

If you using a PS1, I'd buy the PS X-Change 2 disk, search the internet you'll find it. I lost a playstation having it moded only to find out it was the chip that was bad, the PS X-Change disk doesn't need anything installed and cost less the having someone put in a mod-chip. The only draw back is you have to stick a sticker (included) over the door sensor to make it work, if you don't do it right the lid won't close, no biggie if you don't mind having the lid open all the time.
If your using and older Playstation (BIG) then having it modded would cut down on the swap time but the PS X-Chnage 2 disk would still work on it (spring included). |

You don't need a mod chip or a boot cd for your backups unless the game has some kind of copy protection. Well... that is with at least with my playstation. You can do just use the old swap trick where you would put a US game in first and as soon as you see the cd slow down on the playstation licence screen (the 2nd screen that appears when you start up the playstation normally, which is black) you take it out when it is spinning and put in your backup or import game. This works for me on all my backups and import games such as my Dance Dance Revolution 5th mix backup(which just came out last week) and Dance Dance Revolution 3rd mix offical cd. This was all done without any mod chip or boot cd, but you may need the boot cd for some games the have protection but I haven't ran into any problems yet.
