Does NFL Gameday 2002 for PSX need a protection fix?

I tried to play the original version of Gameday 2002 for my psx, but it says that my console may have been modified, so I just want to know if it needs a protection fix or if there is something else i can do to make it work.

I would like to know too. I use a "plug-in" mod on the back of my sony, the original played fine but the copy won't go past the start screen. Why is that?
