Touble Reading psx games

I've had no problem writting psx games, but I have trouble reading some of them. some of the games have been brand new and some are older games. there dosn't seem to be any preference. I have a LG CDE-8120B RW and a Samsung 32X reader. I've tryied reading from both.

I've used CDRwin and CloneCD. I #####ed with cloneCD and it is one of the CDW that they support .I usually get a message like (failed to read sector -----). I also have set the CloneCD properties to match a recant post.

the games I'm trying to copy are 'Tarzan''Buzz lightyear' etc.. (there my Kids as they scratch and have even broken disks)so I've decide to make copies.

Any input will be appreciated!!

BOT is on a distinguished road
There are various reasons why you cannot read PSX cds.
None are due to any intentional bad sectors - they just do not exist.
If you get read errors then the causes are only, a damaged cd or a bad pressing.
In either case there is no point in persisting to attempt a backup.

highlander, I have the same LG CED-8120B writer and so far I have not been able to make one single backup that is bootable on my PSX.

My PSX is chipped and I have played on it copies made by my friends , but whenever I try making a backup, it doesnt boot.

With CloneCD, the image making process stops at around 3-4 %, even though the LG CED-8120B is fully compatib with it (I can still make good PC backups with CloneCD).

With Nero or CDRWin, I can make an image and burn it on CD, but it is not working on PSX. I have tried different settings.

So, I think it could be something with our writer model. I'll try exchanging my LG for something else.

Thanks
for a while I ####ted to think that my CD-rom's simply could not read the data because of incompatibility.
As all of the games play fine.

I'm using a game enhancer and All of the Game I've copied have booted even the ones that had damaged sectors. if it had a damaged sector it simply would not go passed a certain level.

Why does this keep putting hash marks through the word ####ted "( ####ted)" at the begining of the post.

highlander, are you saying that the backups you make with your LG CED-8120B writer all boot on your PSX ???

'Cause if its the case, then why can't I do it with the same writer model ??

How are your components plugged on the IDE ports ?? Be specific.

Primary IDE cable : what is on master and what is on slave ?

Secondary IDE cable : what is on master and what is on slave ??

Maybe the writer has to be on the same IDE cable as the HD.

I'm getting desperate here.

Yes they have all booted fine.

I use a game enhancer that plugs in the parallel port. I put in a disk from my local region to boot-up when it stop spinning change to the copied game.

works a treat!!
WISH THE KIDS COULD DO IT THEMSELVES!!

My CD reader is set to master and my Writer is set to slave on the same cable (IDE PORT).
Hard drive on the other IDE port. my system is AMD 450/64mb ram/2.5 Gb quantum HD nothin special.
Oh yea I've switch off DMA in the properties for both the CD-ROMS this stopped my pc from hanging up. It kept hanging wouldn't do anthing . this isn't how the instructions tell u to set it up.

I've only used cloneCD. On the disks I've copied all settings were on default. I always make an image then copy it. I'm not using expensive disks a pack of 25 no-name I bought until I get a grip of using the copier.
If U need any more Info I'll be happy to tell you the little I know.

hope this helps. I hear that the philps is the one to have.

Thanks highlander for your very good answer.

SO you turned off DMA on your CPU ?

That is one thing i didn't try. I should have.

As for the connections, I had the same as you.

When you say your PC was hanging up with DMA activated, do you mean that it stopped completely, with the screen turning black ??

Anyway, it's too bad I have sen you reply before. I would have tried your settings. 'cause I finally gave up on th LG writer. I got a HP USB external burner instead. I was able to make my first copy with it. There is one problem though : it's toooo sloooow. It takes an eternity before the copy is done. It's ridiculous.

If before the end of the month, i am still not satisfied, I make give that old LG one more try.

Thanks for replying.

No Cabral
It wouldn't give the BSOD(blue screen of Death) it just hung, wouldn't even alow the mouse pointer to move. nothing would unhang it not even Ctrl+Alt+DEl. Just had to switch off and back on. drove me crazy!!
I didnt know what was wrong!
then I remembered about a CD-Reader I had a few years ago that would do the same thing with music CD's.
but in your case I do believe that you can have two of the same say CDR's and one will do what you want and the other won't. Seen this with modems all the time.
hope you find the source of the problem!

Thanks highlander.

Since you can make good PSX backups with the same LG CED-8120 that I had, it's obviously not the writer that was the problem. It's most certainly a problem of data flow on the IDE cables or connectors. By now using an external USB writer, I am just bypassing this problem with IDE.

I already miss the 8 and 12x speeds of my LG. The max speed on the HP USB is 4x !!!!

Anyway, I'll try a few more PSX copies with the HP USB to see if I can still do it. If not, I'll give up on it too.
