XPS help needed

I have an XPS patch, but I can't get it to work (ddr 2 club append 2).

The patch appeared to work ok and it has made the game bootable. (normally you have to boot via the ddr2 disk, but the patch has modified system.cnf to boot append.exe ... very clever), but hasn't got around the copy protection.

Are there any special instructions for applying xps parches - some readme files say that the CD-Writer should correct the EDC/ECC and talks about using 2336 bytes/sector instead of 2352 bytes/sector ?? Can I do this in Nero ??
