Backing Up Boot Disks

Does anybody know the best way to back up a boot disk. I was trying to backup ExtremeFM boot disk with both clone cd and CDRwin, I have clonecd compatible writer, so thats no problem. It cannot be read. CDrwin did read it once but then spat out a coaster...

Do you need to patch it???
Has anybody else done this sort of thing before?
