PS2 back ups

I have backed up 2 games (Ring of Red and Street Fighter EX3) Now when i go to play these they are black and white. I have messed about with all these ntsc to pal converters but they dont work. I am however using the original lead that comes with it. Should i be using a Scart???? Also, does anyone know a way to speed up Ring of Red as its SOOOO slow and can get mind numbing
